Last weekend, I helped my friend Pouya Dianat with the shooting of his short film, GEARS. He and his friend/roommate, Jonathan Cribbs, wrote the script and cast it. What was interesting about the making of GEARS is that Pouya used DSLR’s to capture the video. To put this in layman’s terms, he used cameras that were traditionally used for only still photographs (the kinds of cameras I use). Recently, several DSLR models have been released that can shoot still photographs, as well as capture HD video. Pouya used Nikon D3 camera bodies and Nikkor as well as Carl Zeiss lenses for the film. Audio was captured externally and will be added in during the editing process. This portion of the film was shot in abandoned factory (Thomaston Mills) in Griffin.
